On August 29, Akash Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL), introduced JioPC, a virtual desktop service that operates directly from its Jio set-top box and is fully cloud-based.

And because JioPC lives in the cloud, it is always up-to-date, secure, and you can remotely upgrade your memory, storage, and computing power based on your growing needs,” he said at Reliance Industries’ 48th AGM.
Keeping in mind India’s different income groups, where most citizens fall under the middle-class category, Reliance isn’t banking on high-end hardware; instead, these PCs run directly through the cloud. This creative and smart take on computers makes them affordable for every household- students, homemakers, professionals, etc. This out-of-the-box thinking is what has brought Jio so far along in every industry it steps into.

What is the Cloud?
Let’s get the basics clear, what’s the cloud? You know how when you watch your favourite show on Netflix, Amazon, or any other streaming platform, you don’t need to download it on your device beforehand- you can simply log in and watch it. This is because Netflix delivers or “streams” these shows from its servers.
In the same way, with the Jio Cloud Computer, all the computing and performance, including storing your files and running applications, is handled by Jio’s remote servers, which is “the cloud.” You don’t need to worry about arranging a fast processor or getting a costly laptop to get your work done. With Jio Cloud Computers, the only prerequisites you need are a basic device that can display results and a stable internet connection.

JioPC offers five different subscription plans, each with specs like 100 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM for limitless use. Rs 999 + GST (or Rs 599 × 2) is the price of a two-month bundle, while the standard monthly plan costs Rs 599 plus GST.
The three-month package includes one free additional month, making it a total of four months, and costs INR 1,499 plus GST. The six-month package includes two bonus months, making it a total of eight months, and costs INR 2,499 plus GST.
With three additional months provided, the yearly plan costs INR 4,599 plus GST for 15 months of usage. This is mathematically the best offer, equating to savings worth INR 599 × 15.
Users can tweak their plans as and when required because payment does not need to be made upfront. With the pay-as-you-go model, JioPC is even more accessible for India’s middle-class majority, which makes up most of the population. This way, you don’t accidentally pay for services you didn’t use.
