The Conjuring Last Rites

The Conjuring Last Rites brings back Ed and Lorraine Warren for one final time in the fourth and concluding chapter of the Conjuring cinematic universe, as the ghosts of their past return to haunt them while they help a family rid their home of a demonic presence.

About: The Conjuring Last Rites

Directed by Michael Chaves, The Conjuring Last Rites brings back Ed and Lorraine Warren once again to deliver another bone-chilling instalment of the iconic and widely loved Conjuring franchise. From the trailer released by Warner Bros, we learn that the story is set in 1986, focusing on one of the first demons the Warrens dealt with, as they help the Smurl family of Pennsylvania rid their house of a ghost that has haunted them for over a decade. Life comes full circle for the Warrens, and it feels as if they are back to square one.

In a scene from the trailer, we see Ed trying to save his wife from the figure of a man, saying to her, “I don’t know how to protect you this time.” Viewers can anticipate just how terrifying this case is and only imagine the kind of horror that awaits them.

The Annabelle doll also makes a fleeting appearance, seen for just a split second in the trailer. This brief glimpse piques viewers’ interest and ties the film to the larger Conjuring universe. Not giving the story away, the makers have given us a glimpse of exactly what we signed up for. It looks like we are in for an intense, unnerving ride with The Conjuring Last Rites, and viewers should fasten their seatbelts for this epic viewing experience.

Cast and Crew

The Conjuring Last Rites, directed by Michael Chaves, was written by Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, and produced by James Wan and Peter Safran. The film wouldn’t be the same without these crucial crew members.

Judy Warren’s then-boyfriend, now husband, Tony Spera, is played by Ben Hardy, and the Warren’s daughter, Judy, is played by Mia Tomlinson. Steve Coulter, Rebecca Calder, Kíla Lord Cassidy, Beau Gadsdon, Shannon Kook, John Brotherton, and Elliot Cowan are some of the amazing supporting cast members.

Why Is the Film So Terrifying?

The entire credit goes to the actors’ stellar performances. Horror is a genre that is quite difficult to master because the actors must perform perfectly; otherwise, the dialogue won’t land and the audience would see right through them if they overact or don’t act enough. However, if done right, the fear becomes palpable, and that is exactly what the Conjuring universe does to you, what Vera and Patrick do to you.

They do justice to the real-life paranormal experiences of the Warrens, bringing the terror, suspense, and energy of these haunted cases to the screen, so much so that viewers can feel it vividly through their screens. They once again breathe life into the most terrifying cases that happened to real people, and they are back for one last time in this final instalment of the Conjuring cinematic universe, delivering the fourth film of the franchise.

Michael Chaves’s Spooky Experiences While Filming The Conjuring Last Rites

In an interview, when asked about any of his frightening experiences, he said:

“While shooting in England, I swear to God I was living in a haunted house. It was called The Old Vicarage- one of those places that doesn’t even have an address, just a name. It was in this lovely neighbourhood.” He proceeded to describe how he heard two men’s voices from the floor above when he was home alone, and then how the voices suddenly stopped after he searched every room and found them empty.

“At first, I’m relieved, I think, ‘Well, at least I’m not getting robbed,’ because I’d have no clue how to deal with that. Then I realised that, I swear to God, those voices were there, and I was convinced it was a haunting. I know that something was there. I’m a total believer, and I apologise for any other interview where I might have been dismissive or just tossed off an answer. It happened to me,” he added.
